How do I search for a social care provider?

You can search for social care providers using the search fields in the form on the “Search the Purchasing Directory” page.

This allows you to quickly locate social care providers that match your search criteria.

Example 1: Select “Children” as a Client Group, “Challenging Behaviour” as a Specialist Service”, “SM2 5AS” as a Location and a Distance of 20 miles.

Example 2: Select “Learning Difficulties” as a Client Group, "Aspergers Syndrome" as a Specialist Services, "SM2 5AS" as a location, and a Distance of 20 miles.

To select a specialist service, you must first select a social care client group.

If you don’t find the results you are looking for click “Search again” and the Search page will be clear for you to re-enter your selections.

If you use the Back button to get back to the Search page, the specialist services you selected won't appear. To select these again, click a different client group from the one(s) highlighted, and then re-click the required client group(s). This will enable you to chose specialist services again.

If you multi-select client groups or specialist services, your search will be more limited as the search will only find social care providers offering all of the selected client groups and specialist services you have highlighted. To maximise your search, select just one of the client groups and specialist services

You can search up to a radius of 100 miles from your chosen location. As some specialist social care provision is limited, you may not find a suitable provider within this distance. In this instance, leave the location and distance boxes blank

How does the key word search work

Searches will be most effective using the client groups and specialist services drop-down menus. You can narrow down your search if you are looking for a specific feature of a service by using the key word search eg "Polish" would bring up social care providers with Polish speaking staff.

You can use * as a wildcard in the Key word search. For example Parkinson* will bring up both Parkinson and Parkinsons.

Why are some social care provider’s addresses withheld?

Community Care is aware that addresses of residential children’s social care services are not appropriate to be listed in the public domain and has made every effort to not publish this sensitive information.

Please contact the social care provider directly for further information on specific location. Should you find any entry not complying with our policy, please email comcarepurchasing@rbi.co.uk

I am a social care provider. How do I get my organisation listed in the directory?

You will need to click on the link “Add my organisation” at the bottom of the “Search the Purchasing Directory” page and complete the online form.
Community Care will then contact you to confirm your details have been added to the Purchasing Directory. We aim to load every social care provider’s information onto the site within 5 working days.

My entry is out of date. How do I make changes to it?

Please email any changes to comcarepurchasing@rbi.co.uk, stating clearly which details need to be changed. Community Care will aim to make the changes within 5 working days.

What types of social care providers are listed in the directory?

The directory lists thousands of social care providers from both the private and voluntary sectors.

Providers offer both residential and non-residential services/products. These social care providers who are registered with the CSCI (or equivalent) should have their registration number detailed in their entry. To get more details on their report, click on the link to the report (nb children's residential services and certain adult placement services do not have their reports published on the care commission/inspectorate sites for sensitive reasons). If there is no report available, then click on the link on our site to the local care commission/inspectorate telephone numbers for further details
