Why councils should employ more people with learning difficulties

By Blair McPherson

* How would you go about persuading colleagues to offer a person with a learning difficulty a work placement in your team/office?
* What support do you think you or your colleagues would need if you employed someone with a learning difficulty?
* The team really takes to a new colleague who has a learning difficulty but you notice other staff in the office are obviously ‘uncomfortable' and ignore the individual. What do you do?
* The work placement has been a great success and the team wants the individual to be offered a permanent post. Human resources say you can't just slot them in. How do you resolve this?
