Children whose parents have addiction problems are to receive
support from a dedicated team of social workers as part of a
Glasgow Council initiative.
Thirteen new social worker posts are to be created to cope with
the increasing problem of children affected by the drug or alcohol
abuse of their parents. The specially trained team will support
whole families rather than concentrating on the addiction
difficulties of the adults.
The development was warmly greeted by drug and alcohol support
agencies in the city.
Neil Hunter, senior officer for addictions with the council,
said: "This is the first stage of forming a network of drugs and
alcohol services across the city for young people."
