A new management post combining social care and health has been set up in the Highlands with a view to creating a seamless service.

Fiona White, currently project director for Better Government for Older People with Scottish Borders Council, has been appointed to the new post funded by Highlands Council and the NHS Health Board.  White, who will take up her new duties in October, has just completed a secondment as depute director of the Eastern Health and Social Services Board in Belfast.

Previously she managed community care services in Grampian and Borders, was an adviser to the Scottish executive on community care and chaired the executive’s working group on single assessment.

In her new post of head of integrated community care she will take on the Joint Futures agenda of breaking down barriers between health and social services.  White will report to a joint committee on community care made up of representatives of Highlands Council and the NHS Highland Board.
