Unison is quizzing home care staff on their working conditions to assess the impact this is having on the quality of care.
The trade union has launched a survey for staff working in domiciliary care, covering issues including overall pay, whether people are paid for travel time, rights to sick pay and how far staff are being placed on zero-hour contracts, under which they are not guaranteed work.
Unison is responding to a string of reports highlighting poor practice in home care, including from the Equality and Human Rights Commission and consumer organisation Which?.
The union believes responses to these reports have not focused sufficiently on the impact of staff terms and conditions on the quality of care.
