Children's charity ChildLine is backing Community Care's Speak
Out initiative, which aims to raise the profile of social
services.
Executive director Valerie Howarth said: "Social workers do such
a huge amount of excellent work, it's time that the public knew
about it and understood it.
"They do the backbone and the core of the work with people with
the greatest difficulties in the community.
"They are expected to succeed where everyone else has failed and
we don't get the message across about how difficult these tasks
are.
"When I'm asked what I am rather than what I do, I say I'm a
social worker. I'm immensely proud of it and it will be a good day
when other social workers can feel proud too."
