Sir Michael "Parky" Parkinson boosts dignity champions' numbers

Vern-Pitt-grey.jpgThe Department in Health is celebrating the success of its Dignity in Care campaign which has so far attracted 10,000 Dignity Champions. The department credits the rise in applications to be champions to the involvement of Sir Michael Parkinson who has spearheaded the call for volunteers.

Parkinson said: "'I have had have the great honour of meeting some of our nation's real unsung heroes, hearing their stories and bringing attention to what they are doing to hopefully inspire many others to follow suit."

Champions are themselves tasked with promoting good care for the elderly and making sure dignity is at the heart of what their company does. In the coming months the department will be issuing new training materials to help volunteers do this.
