Neil Hunt has denied there was anything suspicious about his shock departure from the Alzheimer's Society earlier this week after nearly seven years as chief executive.
He said that it was actually the perfect time to go. Speaking to Community Care he said: "This is a natural time to hand over, the one thing I feared was getting stale."
He described his departure as quitting while he was ahead and praised the progress the society has made over the previous years including work on the government's dementia strategy and appointment of a dementia tsar.
Hunt said the time at the society had been "full-on" and that is why he is taking time off, rather than working out his notice period before he goes into a new job to look for new opportunities.
