Essex turns itself around; music and children in care

essexbyalexhealing.jpgThumbs up for Essex in the latest round of unannounced Ofsted inspections. Inspectors noted it had made significant improvements and found there were no areas for priority action.

It was only in August last year the council was told it was still inadequate in many areas around child safeguarding.

Some of the improvements the council has put in place include quality audits, the establishment of an initial referral team to ensure all cases are allocated as well as a better focus on improving supervision and manageable caseloads for social workers.

musicbynathanrussell.jpgAlso came across what promises to be an interesting webinar on using music to help children in care hosted by the charity Youth Music. The conference at the Royal Opera House on 14 June is already sold out but the webinar of the event is free and promises a look at the latest findings and evidence from a range of national research projects as well as some practical tips. I think music and art therapy is probably under used when it comes to children in care so it might be worth logging on. Email marketing@youthmusic.org.uk to register.
