The BBC’s ‘Protecting Our Children’ won best documentary series at the prestigious Grierson British Documentary Awards last week.

Bristol’s director of children’s services Annie Hudson congratulated all the staff who helped contribute to the series “in particular the social workers who took the brave decision to take part in filming”.

She added that she hoped the national recognition that would come with the award would provide a further lasting legacy in helping people understand the subtleties and complexities involved in child protection.

Established in 1972, the Grierson Awards recognise and celebrate documentaries from Britain and abroad that have made a significant contribution to the genre and that demonstrate quality, integrity, creativity, originality and overall excellence.
