Channel 4's Dispatches tonight followed a family support worker going undercover within Surrey's children's services.

While I imagine the tabloids are going to have a field-day with many of the shocking things John, the mole, uncovered, a closer look at the documentary reveals a plea for help for social workers and support workers rather than a condemnation of them.

Birmingham City Council has reportedly splurged £305,000 on IT consultants who have helped them identify the best Integrated Children's System for the council's social services department.

The ICS is expected to cost £19m once it is fully up and running and the council says it is a sound investment in modernisation.
