College of Social Work: are two heads better than one?

The newly-appointed interim chairs of the College of Social Work bring with them considerable experience from different ends of the profession.

Maurice Bates is a local government stalwart, having worked as a social worker and director, while Corinne May-Chahal is highly-regarded figure in social work education.

But in creating a joint position, can the college development group be sure that two heads are better than one?

Perhaps the group is taking its lead from the UK political scene, where coalition governments are fashionable again. But at a time when the profession is crying out for strong leadership, we hope this crucial role will not be diluted by a lack of a single, unifying voice at the top of the organisation.
