Am I Normal: Spirituality

BBC's look into personalities focused on spirituality this week. What was particularly interesting was a discussion on the hearing of voices. People who hear the voices of God/Jesus/Mary are deemed to be blessed and sane; those hearing "bad voices" are deemed to be mad.

One man diagnosed as a schizophrenic spoke about the way he uses his voices, or in the case of the bad voice tries to cope with it. He now works with scientists and therapists to help people use their voices and cope with them rather than just medicate into stupour.

An analysis of the brain patterns of a preacher who "spoke in tongues" showed how the language part of his brain is at rest when he "speaks in tongues": a scientist commented on how this showed that the preacher wasn't faking and that there was a real process taking place, albeit they did not know what the process was.

The Bible is clear regarding 'speaking in tongues' in that it was for a specific purpose - so that those being preached to could understand the message. Most, if not all, of what passes for speaking in tongues nowadays is 'mumbo jumbo' and is 'translated' falsely. There are far too many people who are deluded into believing that it has anything to do with religion.
