Salmond stands up for social workers

It's good to see a politician stand up for social workers for a change. Alex Salmond said social workers were not to blame in the Brandon Muir case.
Speaking at First Minister's Questions, he said: "One thing I would say is that the culpability, the guilt lies with person who perpetrated the crime. It doesn't lie with the social work department or the police."

Of course people need to be held accountable for their actions but there are proper procedures allowing that to happen - in this case a serious case review and independent inquiry. If social workers have made mistakes they will be dealt with by the Scottish Social Services Council. Hopefully Salmond's comments will head off any trial by media.
