There's a story in the Mirror today about a woman with mild learning disabilities who the Mirror says will have her baby taken from her as soon as it's born.
I can't comment on this particular case but learning disability charity Mencap says that in general up to 60% of parents with a learning disability will at some point have their child taken away.
It says people with learning disabilities can be excellent parents but support must be more readily available.

Obviously I can't comment on the case either and I'm not coming from a great perspective here being a student with no real experience actually working within SS but 60% seems like a high number. I totally agree that support should be more readily available to help support those parents who have learning disabilities to enable them to keep their children with them!
I agree - it does seem a high number. I'm sure the right kind of support would go a long way
