Social workers: have you seen colleagues snap under pressure?

Children's services director Kim Bromley Derry recently said it was not uncommon for social workers to become vindictive when faced with aggressive and abusive service users.
This is an issue I want to explore further for an article on the Community Care website and magazine and I'm looking for your help.

If you are a social worker I'd like to hear what you think of the suggestion. Is it really a common occurrence? Have you or a colleague lost a sense of perspective when under pressure? How do you prevent pressure building up? What advice would you have for other social workers?

You can get in touch, in confidence, by e-mailing me.

Yes. i have been on the receivng end of the tongue of a social worker who "lost it"

Not a pretty site.

Yes, and actually, I've snapped myself a few times. You just have to take a deep breath, and remind yourself you can only do what you can do.
