Leeds Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has introduced a multisensory room to help dementia patients relax at its Mount centre.
The room features:

•    Curtains throws and cushions in a neutral colour
•    Fairy lights in soft colours
•    Fibre optic items such as small lamps
•    A basket of textured objects to explore
•    A compact disc player with gentle classical music

It's based on a 70s Dutch idea called 'snoezelen' rooms. Sounds fun - I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has tried them and what effects they had.
