Writing can improve mental health

There's a blog post on Psychology Today about some of the benefits associated with writing and particularly logging your thoughts.
Does writing a blog post count? Am I improving my mental health as I type these words onto the screen? Doesn't feel like it... perhaps the effects are not instantaneous. Maybe I need to write more... but I can't think of anything to say! Oh no... must keep typing...
