The penitent sinner has confessed and now seeks absolution. 

After Gordon Brown's "bigot" remark yesterday, we can be sure that, in tonight's leaders' debate on TV - ostensibly about the economy - immigration will surface in a similarly incongruous way that home affairs did in last week's on foreign policy.

Will social care policy become an election issue?
