Doncaster Council has slammed media reports describing an employee jailed for child pornography offences as a "social worker." Michael Tombs was a "sessional worker" in playgroups and holiday schemes for disabled children, the council points out. He wasn't involved in child protection.
Doncaster, which is struggling to recruit children's social workers, is not pleased by coverage in papers - notably The Sun and the Daily Mail - that report Tombs' case and problems with child protection services in the same breath.

The General Social Care Council - which registers and regulates social workers - has also confirmed Tombs was not a registered social worker.
