Dean Ashton, Cornwall's corporate director for children, schools and families, has resigned in anticipation of a damning report from Ofsted due to come out next week.

According to the council's website and a local Cornwall paper, Ashton left his post before publication of Ofsted's report because evidence used in the report showed there were still "major issues" to be addressed in the department.

In the meantime, the council has appointed Richard Hubbard as the interim director for children, schools and families and Kevin Peers as interim head of improvement in the directorate.

Chief executive Kevin Lavery said these appointments were the first of many steps towards improving children's services in Cornwall.

Community Care is awaiting a response from the council regarding what these further steps might actually be and will keep you updated as the story develops.
