Radio 5 explores personalisation/safeguarding tension

Mithran-Samuel-green.jpgDidn't hear it myself but looks like Radio 5 examined the tensions between safeguarding vulnerable adults and the roll-out of personal budgets/direct payments in the Donal MacIntyre programme yesterday.

It seemed to focus on the issue of personal assistants not requiring CRB checks while also featuring results from a Unison survey, which we reported on in August, showing adult social workers had significant safeguarding concerns about the roll-out of personal budgets etc.

Good to see the issue being covered for sure though I'd be surprised to see any tightening up of the rules and regulations around hiring personal assistants any time soon given how inimical this would be (or be perceived to be) to the philosophy of personalisation.
