Judy-Cooper-green.jpgToday we have Ofsted reports, bits and pieces from the youth justice annual conference and an advice line for scottish foster carers

  • Warrington Borough Council has recieved an inadequate rating of its children's safeguarding services from Ofsted. The report said the councils initial and core assessments, child protection enquiries and child protection plans were not effective and was resulting in poor outcomes for children. Other councils who have recieved the results of unnannounced inspections include Essex, Hertfordshire, Kirklees, Nottinghamshire, Plymouth and West Sussex. Hounslow council has been awarded a rating of "good" for its safeguarding services.
  • The Welsh Children's Commissioner has released his annual report highlighting the need for better multi-agency working across children's services. The Welsh LGA welcomed the report and said with budget cuts looming working collaboratively would become an imperative to try and share costs.
  • The Advice, Information and Mediation Service (AIMS) for foster carers in Scotland has been overhauled and replaced with Fosterline Scotland, launched today, to cover the whole of Scotland. Foster carers can call advisers on 0141 204 1400 or email fosterlinescotland@fostering.net
  • Chief constables are divided on the issue of restorative justice the Annual Youth Justice Board convention in Southport has been told. Watch for more news from the conference on Community Care's newspages
