Yesterday I visited my local theatre to see Tony Benn, who discussed, among other things, how the media and politicians often under-estimate the public. I came away with a warm feeling and a renewed sense of faith in society. But this was put to the test this morning when I read about the reaction of The Sun newspaper and its readers to the latest developments in the Baby P Case.

The Sun is claiming its petition led to the sacking of four Haringey council staff following the Baby P case.
It describes the removal of the staff as a "a victory" for its readers and asks why the council took so long to recognise public anger.
Its coverage makes no mention of the facts leading up to the dismissals.
