National charity Dementia UK has entered into a partnership with Derby-based theatre company Maison Foo to support the company’s tour of their latest production Memoirs of a Biscuit Tin.
The show was devised by Maison Foo who invited elderly patients from the Royal Derby Hospital to share their stories, and used the resulting tales and memories to create Memoirs of a Biscuit Tin. Taking the concept of playing ‘house’ to an entirely new level, Mrs Benjamin’s story is told from the unusual perspective of her crumbling home.
As the show travels the country it will hook up with local groups to help raise awareness of dementia and the valuable help and support that is offered by Dementia UK.
Barbara Stephens Chief Executive of Dementia UK, said: “Dementia UK first became involved with Maison Foo 18 months ago, when we were invited to see the play. We were so impressed – the performance is a very creative way of demonstrating the impact of dementia on an individual and on relationships. The charity was convinced that it wanted to get behind this performance and support Maison Foo on their national tour.”
Memoirs of a Biscuit Tin begins at the Harrogate Theatre on Friday 30 September before touring.
