The government wants to ensure that every worker in every sector across the economy is equipped with "world-class skills" by 2020.
Social care will be no exception; care services minister Ivan Lewis is committed to the transforming and "professionalising" the workforce, a vital cog in the ongoing reforms designed to place citizens at the heart of all services.
This objective will be no easy task in any profession, but social care poses unique challenges.
