As makeovers go, superficially the Tories haven't done a bad job. To
quote Richard Reeves, director of think tank Demos, during a fringe
session yesterday, they have successfully "detoxified the Conservative
brand". But as any fan of interior design TV programmes knows, it's all
in the quality of the finish. And that's where it falls down.
