Sharon Shoesmith appeal: was due process followed?

The emails that have emerged during the judicial review of Sharon Shoesmith's dismissal from Haringey Council are fascinating.

They provide a tantalising glimpse of the support Shoesmith received from those in power.

Whatever you think about whether Shoesmith was competent to continue in her role, the big questions are: was due process was followed, and was Children's Secretary Ed Balls unduly influenced by media pressure?

More details will emerge as the hearing continues and Balls maintains he acted fairly. But social workers need reassuring that Shoesmith was dismissed for the right reasons.
