Liverpool social workers took 28,727 days - equivalent to 78 years - of sick leave in the first nine months of 2009, the Liverpool Echo reported today. This works out at an average of 12.7 days off per staff member between January and September.
However, when you compare this to the national average of 11.8 days of sick leave taken by social workers in 2008, it doesn't seem so shocking.
