The Local Government Association is inviting directors of children's services to join the debate about improving public understanding of social work.
Community Care's editor, Bronagh Miskelly, will be among the guest panellists at the LGA event in London on 1 March. She will be speaking about Com Care's long-running campaign, Stand Up Now for Social Work, which aims to improve public perceptions of the profession.
The issue was raised as a priority for reform in the final report of the Social Work Task Force, which found social work's public image in England was "unremittingly negative".
The LGA event is intended to kick-start local awareness campaigns as part of a wide-ranging reform programme for social work.
