Sometimes suicide attempts are the classic "cry for help".

(As an aside, this phrase always bothers me. Because if someone is going to threaten suicide, something that most of us do not do, then regardless of how much they "mean it" it's indicative of some neurons misfiring, or cross firing, or just not firing at all.
)

Anyway.

And sometimes? Well, one's state of mind is completely understandable.

To Wit:

If I had a terminal illness diagnosed just this year

and I had a drinking problem

and a prescription drug problem

and an unsuccessful run at rehab

thrice

and unsuccessful suicide attempts

twice

and was separated from my wife

who, too, attempted suicide recently

and also had a drinking problem

and was unable to see my kid
because he was in the state's custody

due of a set of parents who were regularly drunk and suicidal?

Yeah. I guess I'd be having some thoughts of offing myself.
