Wait. Don't respond to that.
I'm not crazy in the classical sense of I don't think I can perform surgery. And I don't think the government is monitoring my every movement (Wait. Don't respond to that.) And I don't see little green men in my backyard. Not yet, anyway. And I don't pull personality disorder stunts like "OH (hand on forehead) I'm going to dye my hair PURPLE if I have to work this weekend!"
I feel as if auditory hallucinations are a possibility however.
I was listening to NPR last week and they did a story about ER traffic. You are aware, no doubt, of a common anecdote about emergency treatment: When people are uninsured, it turns out to be vastly more expensive for hospitals because people with no insurance use emergency rooms for minor illnesses instead of going to a primary care doctor.
In fact, this turns out not to be true. People who are not insured actually don't seek treatment at all. And when they do, it often is an emergency because they've not had preventative care. At least so says a study done by the AMA.
I think.
For the life of me I CANNOT find the blasted study link on NPR and I've been looking for far longer than I would like to admit. I've searched the whole site and individual programs. I've looked in several categories for the story. It just isn't there.
I know I heard this story just last week. I KNOW I did. And it had to be on NPR, because I listen to either that or music when I'm in the car. And I was definitely in the car when I heard this.
I'm pretty sure, anyway.
And I even thought when I heard it: "I need to remember this. This would be a good blog entry."
At least I think I thought that. I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps I'm just imagining this whole event.
And now the entry has collapsed into awkward rambling and chattering.
I would hate for you to take my word on this because it would appear I've hallucinated the whole thing. A link would add so much more credibility. Not only to my claim about the study but to my claim that I'm completely grounded in reality. Which, frankly, is highly questionable at this point.
Did anyone out there happen to hear this story as well? Anyone? Anyone? ->
