I don't really get much follow-up with people. The nature of my job just doesn't allow for it. I see people when they're in crisis and refer them to others for long-term care.
Every-once-in-a-great-while, however, I will get some additional information on someone. It's always a treat for me--a little dab of whipped cream and a cherry--to hear how a person whith whom I visited is getting along.
My boss the other day provided me such a treat:
My boss: OH! Do you remember so-and-so? You saw him in July.
Me: I would if I had my assessment in front of me.
My boss: hands the assessment over
Me (after some scanning): Oh yeah, I do remember this guy. Worked for [a government agency], incredible anxiety, dry for just a couple of weeks after drinking for years....
I went on for another few minutes about him. And then I said:
Me: Why? What about him?
My boss: He died. ->
