How about that?  I got a little award!  Chapati over at Skipping Down the Lane for some reason that I cannot fathom felt me worthy.  She was obviously really drunk at the time.  Or experiencing some kind of auditory hallucinations. I hope she's all better now.

And damn it all, I'm not British.  So I can't respond with "Thanks Chapati, I'm dead chuffed!" without coming across sounding like a complete idiot.

Which is too bad, really.  Because "dead chuffed" is a way cool phrase.  Much better than "Thanks Chapati!  I'm thrilled!"   (Nope.  Just doesn't have the same ring to it.  Why do the Brits get all the cool sayings?)

And more good news!  The economy is the toilet bowl!  Yay!  (How do you say "toilet bowl" in British?  Loo? The econonmy is in the loo!)

You know I love lists.  And numbers.  So let's break it down.  These are job cuts announced in just the past two weeks

Caterpiller (machine manufacturer): 20,000 jobs gone
GM: 2,000 jobs cut
Pfizer: 26,000 jobs kaput
Sprint: 8,000 jobs vanished
Home Depot: 7,000 jobs evaporated
ING (Dutch financial company): 7,000 jobs shaved
Texas Instruments: 3,400 jobs slashed
Deere & Co.: With a mere 700 jobs tossed, they look benign.
Warner Bros: 800 jobs chopped
Harley Davidson: 1,100 jobs sacked
Rhom and Haas Co: 900 jobs eliminated
Circuit City: 30,000 jobs booted

I can't go on anymore.  I've run out of metaphors and euphamisms for people getting bad news. Although I'm sure you Brits can help me with that.

By the way, that's 112,900 jobs in total. For now. Over a hundred thousand people, families, lives....->
