All right docs, looks like we need to have another little chat. This won't take long, so stay with me.

I know you're busy.  I know you see a LOT of weird, wacky people in the emergency room on any given shift and that some of those weird, wacky people get to be a bit much.  I will agree completely that a grown adult shouldn't sit in the corner of an ER room and suck his thumb after making a complete nuisance of himself for an hour beforehand.  Knocking things off of shelves is, granted, an annoyance for all involved. And it's a personal affront to the nurses to not keep still so they can start an IV.  I get it.

However.

If you want me to, you know, do my job, I have to be able to TALK to a person if I have any hope of gaining insight as to the root of the wackiness.  This means, quite simply, that it is a bad idea to sedate someone to the point of being comatose before I even arrive.

Especially at 4 in the morning. Which, in case you didn't know, is just plain hostile to the social worker you dragged out of bed. I mean, if I'm going to be sleep deprived and forced to drive across the city, the least you can do is not deprive me of my opportunity to get the dirt.  ->
