Time: For social worker to go to bed. Headache, lack of sleep and sugar withdrawal = cranky, surly, not-so-very-chipper helper person. Just when I think I might actually have a slow night (the dangers of this thought process! I never even say the words "I haven't been called" out loud--don't want to tempt fate), naturally the blasted phone rings.
Situation: Possible admission, please return a call to a child protective worker who lives a couple of hundred miles from here.
Bed status at my hospital:
No female adult beds .
No male adult beds.
No female adolescent beds.
No male adolescent beds.
No female child beds.
Two male child beds.
The calls I take the absolute least? Calls for children's beds.
Bed needed this evening? One for a nine year old boy.
Seriously? You're going to put a nine-year-old in the car after one in the morning, take him on a drive that will take a minimum of two hours, and subject him to an intake process that takes well over an hour? I understand he's out of control, but can't the hospital let him sleep until the morning?
And, child protective worker, don't EVEN ask if it's OK to send the kid with the police and you come up tomorrow and sign him in. We're in this together, dude. ->
