So part of our assessments includes us making a decision as to whether the patient we evaluated has "good  judgment."  Actually, it's a multiple choice question:

JUDGEMENT

Good

Fair

Poor

And then we're supposed to circle our answer and explain our rationale.

Granted, this is a wholly subjective undertaking, as "good judgement" could mean a range of things for a range of people.  And of course, one has to consider the social worker completing said form, who might not be firing on all cylinders or, if you'll pardon the expression here, is simply a judgemental shrew.  One could effectively make the argument that attempting suicide is not using good judgement.

I've always interpreted the statement as common sense stuff that might happen to come out in the interview. For instance, I think most would agree it's not really good judgement to walk 15 miles from your home to a hospital, especially when there is one merely two miles away. Most would concur it's not necessarily good judgement to drive around with your dog in the car for a full earth rotation.  Most would concede that spending up to $15,000 a month on stuff is not the best use of one's resources.

And, I'm sorry, but if you tell me that you think Ozzy Osbourne is a genius?  I'm circling "poor" under JUDGEMENT on my little form.  ->
