Or so it seems.   Perhaps I have a bit of a skewed view on this because I work in hospitals.

But when I meet a lovely woman not much older than me who use to have a life and now she leads a mere shadow of one?  Well, I'm lead to believe our health, just like our life, can be taken away at a moment's notice.

She had a great job with enormous amounts of responsibility.  She had a husband.  They lived in a cute house with a garden, dogs, cats and a fish.  Life was grand. OK, granted, she had a compulsive shopping habit which put her into debt, but other than that....

And then she started getting headaches.  They were tolerable at first but they quickly became excruciating.  She began vomiting due to the pain.  One day in particular was so bad that she went to the emergency room.  There, they did the emergency room thing including x-rays.

Diagnosis?  Aneurysm.

Prognosis?  Well, we need to put you under the knife.  Right now.

So they did.

She lived, obviously. But she lost a lot of her cognitive functioning.  She lost some of her fine motor skills.  She lost her job. Her self esteem. Her lease on life. Her home.  Her husband--he didn't want a "broken wife". Or so she told me.

But no worries, she netted a few tangibles out of the deal.  Like her mother as a roommate and a prescription pill and pot habit. ->
