OK, look, here's the thing:
I understand that when you have a mental illness, having to take medication permanently is not ideal. I get that. It's expensive and there are side effects and, granted, a bit of a stigma that goes along with a diagnosis and subsequent (warning! Jargon!) "pharmacological intervention".
I also understand that those with bipolar in particular have this annoying little habit of going off their meds because the manic phases can be so darned useful. At times. When you want to paint your home or do some serious spring cleaning or revamp the garden or be super employee or uber PTA parent? Well, only needing three hours of sleep at night certainly comes in handy.
Of course, there's the flip side of manic:
Sex, drugs, rock and roll, and thinking you're at the center of a government conspiracy come to mind. So does gambling away your life savings, and buying things you don't really need and can't afford. Like boats.
And then there's telling the social worker you were T-boned in a car accident a few weeks ago which totalled the car and now you have PTSD symptoms and chronic neck pain. When in reality? You sorta went into a manic rage and took a sledge hammer to your minivan.
Yeah. That? Not so good.
Take your meds. ->
