I'm sure you've all heard about the "town hell" meetings that have been springing up like ugly little trolls around the country.
"I don't want socialized medicine!"
"I don't want death panels!"
"I want to choose my own doctor!"
"Show us the long form, you Kenyan!"
Sigh.
Let's address these point by point, shall we? This won't take long.
Ok, the "socialism" argument just irritates me, because all Obama is proposing is a public option, not a single payer system (which, for the record, is the way this socialist social worker thinks we ought to go.) And besides, isn't having a public option what the free market is all about? Competition? Oh! But maybe not if it means insurance companies have to cut costs somewhere to, you know, compete. Hmmm....that's a conondrum for all those CEOs, isn't it?
The "death panel" argument is completely asinine. What the reform says is that Medicare will pay for recipients to have an end-of-life consultation once every five years. This is about establishing a living will. That's it.
The choice thing? Sigh. It's default mode for Americans. I want it MY way.
I'm an American and I drive a gus-guzzler if I want!
I'm an American and I text while driving if I want! (Not in California, though)
I'm an American and I can pack heat in the Grand Canyon if I want!
I'm an American! Get off my lawn!
News flash: private insurance companies limit your choice of doctors unless you want to pay "out of network" prices. Besides, the reform doesn't propose getting rid of your choice.
Go here for some sane explanations about the reform.
And go here for a previous rant complete with links.
As for world rankings, we're better than Saudia Arbia, right? RIGHT?
