Go for it! Seriously. Because if I get nothing else out of my job, (and I won't go on and on about the being "called" to be a social worker and how satisfying the work is and how much pleasure I get at the end of the day because I've somehow helped someone. Gag.) I can always say that people are willing to stroke my ego. Ad nauseum.
To wit:
In the course of a 45 minute assessment, a single person
1) Told me I didn't belong in the hospital room because I was a social worker and not a nurse.
2) Told me I was deliberately "messing" with the his head because I kept repeating a question.
3) Told me I wasn't listening
4) Asked me if I was on drugs
5) Asked me if I was on medication
6) Told me I needed to be on medication (which, to be fair, is probably not far from the truth)
7) Told me I was untrustworthy
8) Told me I was disrespectful
9) Told me I wasn't going to get ANY information out of him about his daughter. At all. Because my hair is red.
See? I make an impression. Clearly I'm in the right line of work.
This too could be you.
