A Phone Call I'll Take
Bookmark and Share
The phone rang last night and I emotionally geared up for going out.
Me:  This is Reas.
Tech: Hey, Reas, it's Burt in the admissions office.
Me: What's up?
(FYI, if the admissions office calls, it generally to call me in to said office. To help with admissions. Because for some reason, it's feast or famine in the world of mental health. Everyone is either right as rain or have falling into the abyss.  And when everyone has falling into the abyss, it's pretty much all hands on deck.)
Burt: So Dr. Overworked admitted four patients tonight....
(here it comes!   3......2.......1......)
...and he wants it known now that he's done admitting for the evening.
Wait.  What?  This is not the way I expected this phone call to go.
Me:  Seriously?
Burt: Seriously.  So I'm just calling to let you know that we can't accept anymore adults tonight.
Me: You mean I won't have to call Dr. Overworked in the middle of the night tonight?
Burt: Exactly.
I win!!! ->

(On a side note, it would be quite nice, wouldn't it, if everyone could say: "Ok, you know what?  I'm done.  I've worked enough today and I'm not working anymore."  And mean it. And then not have to work.)
