Hi,
I'm moving to Birmingham in september to study the social work MA. I'm looking to sign up with a few recruitment agencies for weekend work in social care (I currently work in a homeless hostel and have previously worked as a mental health support worker plus voluntary work, so hopefully I should have some skills they are after).
Was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for agencies? (Or who to avoid?)
I know agencies often promise the earth and deliver very little, I want to try and avoid paying for multiple CRBs with agencies that don't provide work!
Thanks
Laura
If social work agencies take you on they will pay for the CRB checks.
Exactly what sort of part-time work are you looking for?
ah, I thought you had to pay for your own... that should make things easier!
I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for to be honest - ideally I suppose some support work with client groups that I don't have much exeperience with, especially children/youth work, as it would be good for my course - but really I will just be looking for work to pay the bills!
I'm just getting a little worried as I'll be handing my notice in at my current job next month and its been a few years since I've had to look for work, I don't know how the economic climate has affected social care, but I do know how expensive agency staff are!
Hi Laura,
I have previously worked for BBT & Swiis - both of whom have offices in central birmingham. I worked in residential childrens units as an RSW and work was plentiful. The pay & benefits are pretty good for agency work too. Not too sure about BBT but i know that Swiis are a bit selective about their locums but they do offer good training opportunities if they accept you onto their books.
These agencies are international so are also good if you fancy working in europe etc.
Hope this helps
