Hello im an ex nurse with ten years experience and have been looking into studying social work . At the university open day the lecturer advised us all to look at community care and I have been reading some of the posts on the forums and feel a bit put off sometimes by stories of difficulty finding employment when newly qualified, troubles with management and very high case loads. I think I need to look into this as I have wanted to do this course for five years now and I have a few questions if you could answer them please: If there is an issue in your job that bothers you greatly eg high volume of case loads is there any plans by the government or similar to address the issue or will it always be the case?
Did you know all the pros and cons before starting your social work degree and what were the factors that made you choose to study?
Is anyone out there a lone parent and is successfully studying or qualified recently?
How does it feel to be a social worker aside from the negatives of the job, do you feel that you made the right choice and would recommend it?
Thankyou for reading and I look forward to your replies x
