Nice one!

Then we could do the maths again to find out exactly how far £60 per member year might go to cover those kind of expenses on top of staff and board members salaries!

And if it is/ever was seriously sustainable without being totally into the governments back pocket.

But to link to the topic Simeon; how BASWs helpline can be funded is patent and clear.

Has anyone used either helpline yet? Or should we get Jeremy Clarkson to test drive them both!

It stretches credibility to call BASW's posting of a contact email address a "helpline", surely members could contact BASW for help by email since electronic mail was invented?

As they did and by post before that.....I presume they only felt the need to market it in this new cut-throat Social Work Reform environment.

Point taken though about "phone and instant person on the other end with infinite and definitive knowledge", rather than an "e-mail and wait for a researched and considered reply". service.

Wonder if BASW will find it necessary to do that?

PS Anyone phoned and tried yet?

Caught in a complex situation not so easy to express over the phone, call us to talk it over and we will send a follow up considered response by email, nive to talk to you, have a good day. Do you record telephone calls, what do you do with email records?

I have worked for BASW since 1999 and you are right we have always answered queries about practice, policy and  employment issues. But over the years I have become concerned about the number of phone calls and emails from people hesitant about whether this is part of our role. The launch of the helpline is really to highlight the service. We are here to help..
