Hi,

I am part of a group of MA Social Work students, currently enrolled at the University of Plymouth, and as a group, we are undertaking research in existing Mental Health Support for Asylum Seekers and Refugees in the UK.

Part of our research involves looking at the existing support available, and making recommendations on improving the current system.

We would be extremely grateful if anyone reading this has 5 minutes to complete our online questionnaire on this subject, which will enable us to collect primary research data, which we will include in our project.

The questionnaire comprises of 8 questions, and is completely anonymous.

The questionnaire is located here:

Thank you in advance.

Done......but your survey does not include (in the mental health question) that one of the main causes of the mental health problems of asylum seekers is trauma experienced in their home countries (experiences of war or social unrest, persecution, loss and murder of family members, torture etc) leading to them having PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and other mental health problems.

yeah, that was the only criticism I had.

I put it in the "other" box, but you had to choose another option, you couldn't just choose other.

Hi Totnesia and Selks,

Thank you both for your invaluable feedback. I fully appreciate your comments, although am somewhat bewildered that as PTSD was included in the question answers, the questionnaire decided to 'omit' this choice?! I have just gone over it again, and it does appear to have dissapeared, and as the survey is live, I am unable to alter it..

I can only apologise for this error; Rest assured, the option was there when we finalised the survey and sent it out, it seems to have gone missing. The rest of the survey is as we planned it.

I apologise once again, and thank you for your comments and feedback, and for taking the time out to fill the survey in for us!

EDIT: I have just resaved the survey with no changes to the content, and the PTSD entry has shown up again. Must have been a temp glitch, but it is appearing as per normal now. Apologies for this, I will take both of your answers in to the results for PTSD.

Many thanks,

No need to apologise, it's clearly a subject that you've put a lot of time and thought into....and it's not always possible to prevent errors of technology!

Hi,

I have completed the questionnaire and was wondering if it would be possible for you to send me your final results once you have completed your study?

Thanks

Hi there!

Mental health provision for asylum seekers was the topic for my MA dissertation.  It was really interesting but also quite disheartening to hear the stories of agencies working with this extremely vulnerable group who couldn't refer onto adequate and knowedgable services for their service users!  I hope that your findings are a little bit more positive than mine!
