SmileHi All

Im new here-just found you!

Im having trouble getting my student finance sorted and wonder if anyone has had experience!!

I have done 2 years previously on a nursing degree, but left as didnt like it. I have now been accepted on S.Work course for Sept 08 but trying to get any sound advice from the local authority is like banging your head on a brick wallIndifferent Some say I will get full finance because I had NHS bursary before, some say I wont as its all 'public money'. It is taking ages for them to make an assessment and until they do I just cant do anything.

My situation is that I need to get fees paid and full funding to do the course as I have 3 children to supportSmile

Can anyone help?

Hi I will be starting in sept and I am having a hell of a time with finances, I am on the phone constantly the local education authoriy are helpful. It's like taking two steps forward an five back!!! sometimes I think that the real entry test isn't the interview but the finance applications. But I nearly there, have you applied to student finance direct and if you go to the Social care counsil web sit you get the bursery form, you have to print the lot and send through the post but the help lines are good

Hi

Which Uni are you starting at Diddyman? Im at Anglia Ruskin.

I agree I think that dealing with Student Finance is worse than the interview for the course! The worst thing is that one person seems to tell me one thing and then I speak to someone else another day and they say something completely different.

Thing is I need the Student Finance Notification before I can get the Bursary sorted and I feel like Im running out of time!

Hi Glad to hear that your notification has arrived. I hope it was correct!

As a matter of interest how long did your letter take to come?  Someone told me they take about 10 days after they post it out for it to get to you! I hope not.

When I went to my pre course day last week someone said NOT to send of the actual notification to Bursaries because theyre constantly losing them. Someone else in the group said they only except the original and he said not now because they have just changed it so you can send copies because it costs them to much to post them back and a lot of them have got lost in the post!!

Were you sending of original or photocopy? Might be worth ringing them to check. Could you let me know what they say if you do.

Thanks

hiya

i sent my appl to my l.a  in april so it has taken 3 months for them to reach a decision. i sent the original with my application for the bursery, recorded delivery and with a stamped addressed envelope.  i hope yours comes soon as i felt very frustrated when i was waiting for my decision.  i believe that you have until feb next year to apply and you don't have to wait as long because all the checks have been completed by the l.a

  hope this helps

There was a nurse on our course (she dropped out) who because she previously received NHS bursary while training did not qualify for the student loan so she had to pay her fees herself as well as her living costs. She did get the social work bursary though I think. But that isn't enough to pay fees and live on!
