I have applied to study the Social Work MA at Brunel, Kingston, Greenwich, Middlesex and London Met.
I have been invited for two interviews one with Brunel and the other with Greenwich. I still haven't heard from my other choices.
Brunel is my number one choice, I visited the university today at the Postgraduate Open Day. I met the Programme Leader, listened to talks, met other students and had a tour of the university.
I am very pleased to say that I was very happy with all the things I saw and heard.
My interview is in two weeks and I have been preparing or it by reading (Understanding Social Work - Neil Thompson), Journals, Social Care Websites, recent headlines relating to Social Work and new legislation.
Is anybody else applying to study at Brunel? Has anybody successfully gained a place for 2012/13? If so how did you find the interview process?
Looking forward to hearing from you
Hi SweetD
How'd you get on with your Brunel interview? I've got an interview day coming up there this week and would really value some pointers. I've read parts of their suggested books and the article, but from your experience there should I give anything a particular focus?
Hope you're happy with your application process so far and thanks in advance
Hi Sweet D
Did you get a place at Brunel, l did looking forward to seeing you. You went for open day, did they say that they will def get you a statutory place for placement or it is not guaranteed. l found interview ok, written was fair , was on integrity and group discussion was case study.
Hi Lizabell
I went we had a written test on integrity article summarise, apply integrity to social work , they marked the written part while you do the university tour and once you passed would go to the group scenario, where we had a case study about elderly lady had to apply social work practice into it, how you would deal with case as a social worker. hope this helps. All the best
Sorry for the delay in replying. I think your interview may have gone, if so how did it go?
Yes I've been offered a place at Brunel & I have firmly accepted.
I read Neil Thompson's 'Understanding Social Work' which I found very helpful plus I had a look at the websites & books they recommended.
Anti-Discriminatory Practice is an important focus.
Good luck. Let me know how you get on.
Hi Swiggle,
Yes I got a place at Brunel & I've firmly accepted!
They say that they try to give every student a statutory placement on the placement although I'm not sure this is guaranteed because they can be so hard to come by.
How did you get on at Brunel?
Hi Sweet D,
I haven`t confirmed yet, but most likely confirming with Brunel. Have they given you the induction date in june yet.
What is it about double letters that is so appealing to students?
Ok that's good. What other offers do you have?
They haven't given me any dates for the induction as yet but they sent me an email saying they will be contacting me in the coming months via email with details of how to register, CRB, induction etc
I have an interview at Brunel this Thursday for the MA Social work course.
What can I expect from the test and group interview?
Thanks in advance.
Hi
We had an article on discrimination and social injustice write an essay on that article and group interview was about a case study and how you would address the scenario as a social worker
