hi everyone!!!

well the nerves are kicking in!!! I have an interview at LJMU on the 11th March. All the other uni's ive applied too I have been unsuccessful on this whole 'experience' situation which is becoming a major hate to me.

I am in my final year studying Early Childhood Studies and am currently also a Community Care Support Worker!!! I am 22 and no matter how hard I have tried to seek voluntary work in social work areas it hasn't happened - well in this country anyway.

During my course at uni I have completed several placements that have involved working with children and teacher liasons and i worked alongside a Social Worker in South Africa for 12wks but thats as far as my experience stretches as whenever I apply for Social Work Placements because of the short amount of placement time ive had theyve never been interested.

soooo............... I am actually rally scared, Ive never had a Uni interview nevermind one where I probably have one of the least experiences and was wondering if anyone could help me what to expect?????

 Thanks in advance

this sounds crazy as it appears that you have plenty of experience, it may not be statutory social work experience but not many people do have that before attending university. i really dont know what to suggest. good luck. i hope someone else will be able to help you.

Hi

I am really confused. You have loads of experience - South Africa - wow! Social work courses are very oversubscribed. At my uni which is in a large City on the South Coast, they had 500 applicants for 60 places. But what they did was increase their intake to 107. I am in yr2 now within that very large intake. We are now down to approx.80 ish students. However the over large intake has generated many problems. Lecturers leaving because of increased workloads - placement issues and even lecture theatres have been an  issue as there was not many that could hold so many students. Make sure of  the quality of the course - it is very variable and you deserve the best support and teaching - you are paying! Don't know your situation or even where the uni you mentioned is but there are several Uni's on the South Coast that offer quality teaching and the courses are validated by the GSCC. I have heard good feedback from Bournemouth and Southampton uni's. Good luck!
