Hi guys the second part of the interview question is listed below, apart from adp and health and safety issues is there any thing else i should mention? i'm really stuck on what to say and i so wish to pass the test as i have my heart set on becoming a social worker hopefully, any tips and answers will help.

Case Study


You are a newly appointed manager of a residential home for four people who have a learning disability you have a social work qualification. The home has just been opened. Here is a brief description of the residents. In your capacity as a social worker what do you think you can do to enable the residents to maximise their opportunities? What difficulties and issues do you think they will encounter what rights do they have? Deal with each service user individually.

Mr D is a fifty four year old white British man whom spent the first thirty years of his life in a large institution in Kent.

Mr R is a twenty four year old black British man whom has just moved away from his parental home. His older parents are no longer able to cope with his care needs.

Ms M is seventy two years old and white British. Like Mr D, Ms M has spent most of her life in an institution. This is her third placement previous placements have broken down due to Ms M’s challenging behaviour.

Ms P is a thirty two year old white European woman with Down’s syndrome. She has recently moved to the residential home so that she can be near her family

Hey there, sorry I don't have much time at the moment but off the top of my head, here are some general points I would be considering:

The first thought that came to mind is that these individuals cover a wide age range and are coming together from very different backgrounds.  I'm being general here but a person who has lived for much of their life in an institution may be 'institutionalised' and used to a very particular routine.  There is someone moving from their family home to a completely different environment of being supported by people that are paid to be there.  Consider people's ethnicity and cultural differences.  As with anybody sharing a house, there should be consideration to people's general interests etc and these should be matched appropriately.

To enable people to maximise opportunities you need to first identify what a person's aspirations are, what are their strengths and also what are they at risk of.  You would be gathering everybody involved in a person's care, including the person, family members and any other professionals involved and you would be working out a person specific plan to support the person to achieve their aims.

In terms of legislation I would be considering the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, the Human Rights Act 1998, the Race Relations Amendment Act 1996, the Adult Support and Protection Act 2007.  I'm sure there are lots of others but as I said this is off the top of my head! Hopefully somebody else can be a little more specific or if you are still looking in a week I'll have more time then...there is sooooo much you could say about each individual!  Good luck : ) xxx

many thanks for the response my interview's on the 14th May thus trying to cram as much as possible, thus would really help if you could expand more
